Preschool Activity Time:
Monday - Friday 8:00am to 11:15am
Curriculum Philosophy:
The curriculum for Sacred Heart Child Care Center is designed to support and enrich the development of the whole child - socially, emotionally, physically, spiritually, and intellectually. The primary method of learning is through hands on exploration and purposeful play with guidance of a qualified teacher.
Why mixed age classrooms?
Past and current research has shown many benefits of mixed age classrooms. Social development is enhanced, and leadership and pro-social behaviors are increased. Children whose knowledge or abilities are similar but not identical stimulate each other's thinking and cognitive growth.
Learning through play:
Play is a young child's work. It is the way children learn; the medium through which children work out their ideas and concepts, and experience the world in which they live. Each play experience is designed with an educational purpose. Play is also a time where children learn from each other. They learn how to solve problems, they pick up new ideas, and learn new vocabulary (important for emergent readers). They are busy organizing their thoughts, impressions of themselves, of other children, and of adults as they develop socially, spiritually, intellectually, and emotionally. In a play-based environment, a child's developmental needs drive the curriculum. Our preschool program is designed to be both flexible and emergent.
